There is no doubt that high school can be a stressful time for teenagers. From the demands of school teams, clubs and academics, it often feels like your teenager is being pulled in many different directions at the same time. Add to the mix the need to take the SATs/ACTs and the stress and emotional and intellectual demands on the student increases.
In order to mitigate the often negative feelings associated with taking the SATs/ACTs, it is crucial to begin the planning and preparation for it in advance.
At The Student Den the services and support we are able to provide your student are unsurpassed in comparison to the other options available to you. We understand the two tests and the differences that lie therein. We are able to help you identify which test is best for your teen to take and we offer either one-time support/study sessions or a six-week program, or any combination thereof. We view every student as an individual, and we are proud to say that we keep experiencing success after success.
Working with Student Den makes sense for your child for a variety of reasons. Perhaps the primary reason why your child should access our support and tutoring sessions is because: We get it. Junior and Senior year are very busy and are vitally important as students go ahead thinking about applying for college. This is the time to get SAT/ACT scores that you will need to get into a college of your choice. Did you know that it is not a requirement to do the SATs and that essentially every college across the United States will accept ACT scores as well? We know that! We also know that depending on the strengths and learning style of your child, they will naturally perform better on one of the standardized tests as opposed to the other. Knowing this, and having the opportunity to test your learner’s strengths is just one of the advantages of working with The Student Den. We set your child up for success from our very first meeting with them.
To clarify, the ACT is an achievement test that measures what a student has learned in school. The SAT is an aptitude test that tests reasoning and verbal abilities. The ACT has up to 5 components: English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and an optional Writing Test. The SAT has only 3 components: Critical Reasoning, Mathematics, and a required Writing Test. Upon meeting with your teen, we will assess your student to determine the way they learn best. Where are their strengths and weaknesses? From there we will tailor a plan to suit their individual learning needs and go forward with the approach and plan for your student to write the test that allows them to show their strengths best. Not only will we teach the students the concepts, but we will also teach them HOW to write the test and help build up their confidence. This will help them go forward with the belief in themselves that they will succeed on whichever test they choose to write. There is a direct correlation between believing in your own success and then performing that task in a way that demonstrates a high achievement. The Student Den experience is a holistic one that takes the approach of preparing your teen for success in a multi-faceted way.
